Metal Detect System

The standard metal detector prevents that together with the crop ferrous metal is fed into the cutterhead and causes damage to the machine and injuries to the health of the animals.

As soon as sensor (A) in lower front feed roll detects a piece of ferrous metal, the four feed rolls and the harvesting unit are stopped immediately by means of the locking pawl solenoids (B1) or the locking pawl magnetic switch (B2).

At the same time power flow from cutterhead to length-of-cut transmission is interrupted by the input clutch (IVLOC) or the electromagnetic clutch (four-speed LOC). The input clutch (IVLOC) or the electromagnetic clutch (four-speed LOC) may also be shut off by operating the quick stop function of the multi-function lever. Feed rolls and harvesting unit are stopped immediately by this function.

The system must be reversed to reactivate the feed rolls.

Test switch (F) tests all circuits and components of the metal detector and finally trips the metal detector to verify all components function properly. The magnetic field of the secondary winding induces voltage in the primary winding, simulating detection of ferrous metal.

The metal detect system represents an important monitoring functionality and complies with the following requirements:

  • Detection capability for ferromagnetic materials
  • Metal location detection capability
  • Sensitivity adjustment capability
  • Self learning sensitivity calibration capability
  • Diagnostic and self diagnostic capability
