Changing Engine Oil and Filter - Cummins Engine

NOTE: Change engine oil and filter for the first time before 250 hours maximum of operation, then every 250 hours thereafter.

If John Deere PLUS-50 ® engine oil and a John Deere filter are used, the oil and filter change interval may be extended by 100 percent or to 500 hours.

Run engine approximately 5 minutes to warm up oil. Shut off engine.

Remove oil pan drain plug (A) and drain crankcase oil while warm.

Remove filter element (B). Dispose of it properly.

Dispose of filter packing. Clean mounting pad.

IMPORTANT: Fill the new oil filter with 2.7 L (0.7 U.S. gal) of clean lubricating oil. The lack of lubrication during the delay until filters are pumped full of oil is harmful to the engine.

Oil the new packing and install new filter element. Hand tighten the element by 3/4 to 1 turn after the packing comes into contact with the filter housing. Do NOT overtighten filter element.

Put the drain plug back in place.

Fill crankcase with correct engine oil at filler neck (C).

Crankcase oil capacity (with filter change): 45 L (11.9 US.gal.)

IMPORTANT: Remove fuse 3F19 immediately after completing any change, and crank the engine for 30 seconds. This will help ensure adequate lubrication of engine components. Re-install fuse 3F19.

NOTE: Crankcase oil capacity may vary slightly from amount shown. Always fill crankcase to full mark on dipstick but do not overfill.

Start engine and check for leaks. Stop engine and check oil level after 10 minutes. Oil level should be on upper mark of dipstick.
