Separator Operation
The beater receives material from the cylinder and routes the flow of straw to the straw walkers. The adjustable concave extension suspends the material so that the beater routes it over the end of the straw walkers, thus increasing the entire separating area.
Without the concave extension most of the crop will be sent directly to the grain pan and the screens will be overloaded. With the concave extension only loose grain will fall onto the grain pan.
After straw is placed on the straw walkers it is shaken and thrown up and back. Loose grain falls through the straw walker screen openings into the pan. Straw continues to be thrown back along the straw walkers until reaching the end of the combine, where it falls on the ground.
No threshing is done in this unit. Therefore, unthreshed grain remains so and leads to grain loss.
