Threshing

Threshing means removing grain from pods, ears and shells of crops such as soy beans and corn.

More than 90% of the grain is separated here, i.e. passes via the concave to the grain pan.

The remaining 10% is separated by other devices. We can say that the threshing unit is the heart of the combine, since poor separation will affect all other combine operations. For example, if the amount of grain separated is low, an excessive amount of grain will pass with straw over the straw walkers. There is no way to avoid grain loss via the straw walkers.

Threshing can take place by impact (against the cylinder and tooth concave) or by friction (cylinder and bar concave).
