Small Grain Combine Set Up Procedure

The information provided in this set up procedure is intended for use as a basic adjustment guide only. Some types of crop varieties and conditions may require deviations from the order given in procedure. Always preform one adjustment at a time.

Prior to Starting

NOTE: This procedure assumes that the platform is properly adjusted to prevent header loss.

1- Set combine to recommended initial settings for the grain crop, see "Combine Settings" in this Section.

2- Run combine until separator is completely FULL.

3- Power shutdown combine, see "Power Shutdown Procedure" in this Section.

4- Start set up procedure. Go to step 1 .

A Check tine separator. Discharge residue. GO TO A1
     
A1 Is there excessive broken and chewed straw? YES: GO TO A2
NO: GO TO A6
     
A2 Is there excessive free grain in straw? YES: GO TO A3
NO: GO TO A5
     
A3 Remove concave inserts if installed or remove tine module grate covers if installed.
Is free grain reduced?
YES: GO TO A5
NO: GO TO A4
     
A4 Open concave in 6 mm (0.25 in.) increments until excessive broken straw and/or free grain is reduced. GO TO A8
A5 Reduce cylinder speed in 30 rpm increments.
Is straw excessively broken?
YES: GO TO A4
NO: GO TO A8
     
A6 Set separator speed to 740 rpm.
Is there excessive free grain in straw?
YES: GO TO A7
NO: GO TO A8
     
A7 Remove concave inserts if installed or remove tine module grate covers if installed or increase cylinder speed in 30 rpm increments until free grain is reduced.  
     
A8 Set separator speed to 740 rpm.
Is there unthreshed grain?
YES: GO TO A9
NO: GO TO STEP 2
     
A9 Close concave in 6 mm (0.23 in.) increments.
Is unthreshed grain reduced?
YES: GO TO A1
NO: GO TO A10
     
A10 Increase cylinder speed in 30 rpm increments.
Is unthreshed grain reduced?
YES: GO TO A1
NO: GO TO A11
     
A11 Install front concave closure strips.
Is unthreshed grain reduced?
YES: GO TO A1
NO: GO TO A10

B Check cleaning shoe (Chaffer and sieve area). GO TO B1
     
B1 Is there free grain at the rear of the chaffer or directly beneath the rear axle? YES: GO TO B2
NO: GO TO STEP 3
     
B2 Is there excessive chaff load on the chaffer and precleaner? YES: GO TO B3
NO: GO TO B4
     
B3 Increase fan speed.
Is free grain reduced?
YES: GO TO STEP 3
NO: GO TO B4
     
B4 Open chaffer in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is free grain reduced?
YES: GO TO STEP 4
NO: GO TO B5
     
B5 Open precleaner in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is free grain reduced?
YES: GO TO STEP 4
NO: GO TO B6
     
B6 If there is still excessive chaff load:
Check separator residue (STEP 1-A1)
If straw condition is dry and brittle and straw residue is ground, perform STEP 1-A5.
Is chaff load still excessive?
YES: GO TO B7
NO: GO TO STEP1-A8
     
B7 Perform STEP 1-A4.
Is chaff load still excessive?
YES: GO TO B8
NO: GO TO STEP1-A8
     
B8 Perform one or more of the following steps until chaff load on shoe area decreases:
Install concave inserts.
Install rear concave cover plates.
Install tine module grate covers:
Install one complete row at a time starting from the rear of the separator module. Do not cover VisionTrak sensor.
Set separator speed to 570 rpm.
Reduce ground speed in 0.8 km/h (0.5 mph) increments.

Is there excessive grain in sample?

C1 Open sieve in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Are tailings reduced?
YES: GO TO STEP 4
NO: GO TO C2
     
C2 Open chaffer in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is free grain reduced?
YES: GO TO STEP 4
NO: GO TO C3
     
C3 Reduce fan speed in 30 rpm increments until tailings are reduced. GO TO STEP 4

Is grain damage excessive?

D1 Reduce cylinder speed in 30 rpm increments.

D2 Open concave in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is grain damage reduced?

D3 Remove front concave closure strips if installed. GO TO D4
     
D4 Check for unthreshed heads
(STEP 1-A8).
 
     
D5 Is sample clean?
If grain tank sample contains "beards", install front concave closure strips if steps D6 through D7 do not eliminate this problem.
YES: COMBINE IS NOW PROPERLY ADJUSTED
NO: GO TO D6
     
D6 Close precleaner in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is grain sample cleaner?
YES: COMBINE IS NOW PROPERLY ADJUSTED
NO: GO TO D7
     
D7 Close chaffer in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is grain sample cleaner?
YES: COMBINE IS NOW PROPERLY ADJUSTED
NO: GO TO D8
     
D8 Close sieve in 3 mm (0.12 in.) increments.
Is grain sample cleaner?
YES: GO TO STEP 3
