Rear Concave Inserts
Rear concave inserts (A) are standard equipment.
The following guide lines are recommended for use of the rear inserts:
To help reduce trash loads on the cleaning shoe. In dry brittle type crops, should heavy trash loads affect cleaning shoe capacity, installation of the rear inserts will help reduce the amount of crop material passing through the concave and pass it up into the tine module
To help increase threshing performance in hard to thresh crops (barley, high moisture corn etc.). Installation of the rear inserts will increase the effective threshing surface area of the concave. In corn, the inserts will also prevent broken cob pieces with unthreshed kernels from falling through the concave onto the cleaning area.
To help reduce concave plugging. When harvesting high moisture corn, installation of inserts reduces hairpinning and possible plugging of the rear concave with damp/wet leafy material.
To help reduce conveyor auger wrapping. In some conditions, should conveyor auger wrapping be experienced, installation of the inserts will reduce the amount of material falling through the concave that can cause wrapping on the conveyor augers.
Soybeans - The use of concave inserts is primarily for the benefits listed above. Inserts (in or out), generally do not affect performance in soybeans. Therefore, if the inserts have been installed for one of the reasons listed above, and there is a need to harvest soybeans the same day, it is not necessary to remove the inserts.
