Water Trap

John Deere POWERTECH ® 8.1 L engine

CAUTION: To prevent a possible fire hazard, remove the ignition key before servicing filters.

Should water and sediment deposits be visible, open drain plug (A) with engine shut off.

Drain contaminated fuel into a suitable container. Retighten drain plug (A).

Clean or replace filter element:

Close shut-off valve at fire wall.

Open bleed screw (B) and remove drain plug (A) to drain filter element.

Disengage spring (C) by pressing tab (D) to disengage top hook of spring (C).

Take out filter element and clean thoroughly in clean diesel fuel. Dispose element after having cleaned it 5 to 10 times. Replace element with a new one.

After cleaning, re-install the filter element in reverse order of removal procedure.

Bleed fuel system after every filter change.
