Field Operation of Forage Harvester
Prepare forage harvester for the crops to be harvested (see instructions in this Section).
NOTE:
Fold in the rear lights if you think they may get damaged, e.g. in harvesting conditions that involve tight turns.
Attach and prepare corresponding harvesting unit (see Section "Attaching and Detaching Harvesting Units" and harvesting unit Operator's Manual).

NOTE:
On 6950 forage harvester, the engine speed cannot be increased unless the specified oil pressure has been reached (engine runs at slow idle until specified pressure has been reached).
Start engine and keep engine speed low.

|
IMPORTANT:
Normally the main clutch must be engaged at low engine speed. When there is crop in the machine, however, the main clutch must be engaged at high engine speed to avoid plugging of discharge spout.
Engage main clutch.

|
NOTE:
The second gear is best for all-around field performance. Depending on field conditions and temperature, third gear (especially with rear wheel drive) can be used for field operations, but only if hydrostatic oil does not overheat.
Watch indicator light and listen for warning signal. Operation with overheated hydrostatic oil will cause serious damage.
Switch on metal detector, if necessary. Refer to Section "Metal Detector".

|
|
NOTE:
When operating without metal detector, metal detector switch on length-of-cut transmission must be in "Off" position.
Operation with Metal Detector (I)
Reverse for a short time by actuating harvesting unit/reverser switch before switching to forward.
NOTE:
When reversing, locking pawl is disengaged. Feed rolls and harvesting unit rotate in reverse direction for at least two seconds.
Operation without Metal Detector (II)
Feed rolls and harvesting unit can be switched on directly by actuating harvesting unit/reverser switch.
I-Switch on feed rolls and harvesting unit when operating with metal detector
II-Switch on feed rolls and harvesting unit when operating without metal detector

|
Adapt ground speed to harvesting conditions with forward/reverse ground speed lever (multi-function lever).
IMPORTANT:
Hydrostatic stall conditions must be avoided as this may cause overheating of hydrostatic system in less than one minute.
Adjust discharge spout to the trailer to be loaded.
Switch on four-wheel drive, if necessary (see Section "Driving and Transporting Forage Harvester").
