Service Codes, Cummins Engine
General Information
The engine protection system monitors critical temperatures and pressures and records diagnostic errors whenever abnormal operating conditions occur. If such a condition demands a restriction of engine power, the operator is warned by an indicator light in the corner post (see "Warning Devices and Monitors").
Depending on the relevant malfunction, engine power and speed will gradually be reduced. The engine is shut off by the engine protection system.
The service codes are stored in the electronic control unit. Engine stop and engine warning light can be used to call up these service codes.
Service Code
A service code is a 3-digit figure (from 111 to 551) which is determined by the engine stop light. For each digit of the figure, the operator has to count how many times the engine stop light flashes.

Calling Up Service Codes
Move service code switch to center position.
Turn on ignition.
NOTE:
If no service code is stored, engine stop and engine warning lights will light up and stay on.
If there is an error, the engine warning light will flash. After 1 or 2 seconds the engine warning light wil go out and the engine stop light will flash.
The engine stop light will flash to indicate the value of the first digit (e.g. 1 flash indicates a value of 100).
After 1 or 2 seconds the engine stop light will flash to indicate the value of the second digit (e.g. 5 flashes indicate a value of 50).
After 1 or 2 seconds the engine stop light will flash to indicate the value of the third digit (e.g. 4 flashes indicate a value of 4).
The engine warning light will flash once to indicate the end of the first service code ("154" in our example).
Press the side of the service code switch with the symbol on it for at least 2 seconds to proceed to the next service code.
NOTE:
If no further service code is stored, the first service code will be displayed once more.
If a second service code is stored, the value of the three digits will be indicated as described above.
As soon as all service codes have been called up, switch off ignition.
