The metal detector prevents ferrous metal from entering the machine.

As soon as sensor (A) in lower front feed roll detects a piece of ferrous metal, the four feed rolls and the harvesting unit are stopped immediately by means of the locking pawl.

At the same time power flow from cutterhead to length-of-cut transmission is interrupted by the

electromagnetic clutch. The electromagnetic clutch may also be shut off by operating the quick stop function of the multi-function lever. Feed rolls and harvesting unit are stopped immediately by this function.

The system must be reversed to reactivate the feed rolls.

A secondary winding (test winding) around permanent magnet of sensor (A) is supplied with voltage when operating test switch (B). The magnetic field of the

secondary winding induces voltage in the primary winding, simulating detection of ferrous metal.
