Metal Detector Test

This test will determine if the metal detector is operating correctly. Test daily before operating.

Perform the following steps:

1. Activate metal detector [tongue (A) points upward].

2. Start engine.

3. Engage main clutch.

4. Switch on metal detector.

Do STOP and metal detector lights come on and can the warning signal be heard?

Yes: Continue

No: Go to chart 1 in this Section

5. Reverse feed rolls and harvesting unit.

Do all indicator lights go out and does warning signal stop?

Yes: Continue

No: Go to chart 2 in this Section

6. Engage feed rolls and harvesting unit.

Are feed rolls turning forward?

Yes: Continue

No: Go to chart 3 in this Section

7. Press test switch (A).

Do indicator lights (2) come on and can the warning signal be heard?

No: See your John Deere dealer.

If Yes: Does the locking pawl stop the feed rolls abruptly, causing the slip clutch to slip momentarily?

Yes: Metal detector is operational. Shift feed rolls to reverse again to disengage locking pawl. Then shift to forward again and start field operation.

No: Check locking pawl adjustment.
