Tensioning Water Pump Drive Belt - Cummins Engine

Loosen lock nut (A).

Tension belt by means of tensioning screw (B).

Measure belt tension midway between the pulleys.

Specification

New belts -Tension 710 N (160 lb)
Used belts -Tension 290-580 N (65-130 lb)

NOTE: Do not adjust belt tension to full value with the adjusting screw. Belt tension can increase when lock nut (A) is tightened and, therefore, reduce belt and bearing life.

Secure the idler pulley by tightening lock nut (A) to 70 N·m (50 lb-ft).

Loosen tensioning screw 1/2 turn to prevent breakage.

Check belt tension again and adjust, if necessary.
