Steering Ratio

NOTE: Channel 2 is set to "4" at the factory. If the crop is standing more or less in straight rows, try setting channel 2 to "2".

The steering ratio controls the magnitude of steering wheel deflection to a given feeler input. If the steering ratio is set too low, the wheels will not have enough deflection to steer the machine back onto the row center as it travels through the field, and travel around contours becomes impossible.

If the steering ratio is set too high, the wheels will have a tendency to "throw" the rear of the machine back and forth as it travels through the field.

As the speed of travel increases, less steering magnitude is needed. The ROW-TRAK ™ automatically decreases the steering ratio as the travel speed increases. The steering ratio should be set higher for fields with curves or contours than for fields with straight rows. Higher ratio values indicate a greater steering angle.

ROW-TRAK is a trademark of Deere & Company.
