IMPORTANT:
Before installing new knives, check knife bed area of knife retainers using a straight edge (no deformation in this area is allowed). The knives must make good contact over the entire knife bed area.
Thoroughly clean entire cutterhead.
NOTE:
Check stationary knife for wear (a new cutting edge is required for cutterhead knife alignment). If necessary, turn end over end or replace (see instructions in this Section).
Insert rod (C) (used to lock cutterhead guards) into side panel holes (D). This rod is used as adjusting aid.
Install a knife each on l.h. and r.h. sides and align them with the adjusting aid, i.e. adjust them to the largest possible diameter.
IMPORTANT:
To ensure that no unusual resistance occurs, turn cutterhead manually.
Align stationary knife with the two knives installed (and tightened to the specified torque).
Align the remaining new knives, using a new cutting edge of the stationary knife. Tighten screws (E) finger tight. Recheck adjustment and, starting with the center one, tighten screws to specified torque.
NOTE:
Mark knives after tightening screws to make sure you do not forget to tighten any screws.
Turn cutterhead manually and lower sharpening stone manually onto the right-hand knife row until it lightly touches the knives. Slide sharpening stone carefully across the left-hand knife row to check if knives are parallel to the sharpening device. Adjust sharpening device, if necessary (see instructions in this Section).
Close feed roll housing and prepare machine for knife sharpening. Sharpen cutterhead knives. Adjust stationary knife, outlet band / spiral floor and recirculating screen.
