Main Drive Troubleshooting

off engine and wait until all moving parts have stopped.

Symptom Problem Solution

Main drive clutch slipping

Clutch disk friction surfaces worn

Replace clutch disks

Seals hardened due to overheating or damaged seals

Replace seal set or clutch disks

Leaking elbow

Replace elbow

Accumulator not charged, hydraulic pressure sending unit not operating

Replace hydraulic pressure sending unit

Main drive clutch overheating

Pressure buildup in main drive clutch during knife sharpening

Have hydraulic system checked by your John Deere dealer

Cutterhead drive belts slipping

Belts worn, stretched, or broken

Replace if idler cylinder is at the end of its travel. See your John Deere dealer

Check cylinder pressure as indicated by the hydrostatic charge pressure indicator light.

Check idler mounting for free movement and lubricate. Refer to "Lubrication, Periodic Services" Section.

Sheaves worn

Replace sheave that slips. See your John Deere dealer
