Ground Speed Limitation

Ground speed limitation is implemented to comply with road traffic regulations. According to these regulations, self propelled harvest machines are not allowed to be operated at speeds higher than a certain value. The definition of the maximum speed can vary from one country to another.

The drive train control system of the forage harvester implements a ground speed limitation functionality. This is implemented by monitoring the front wheel speed sensor of the forage harvester. Whenever the sensor is indicating that the rotational speed of the front axle is beyond 1000 rpm (ground speed too high) and the 3rd gear switch (A) indicates that the transmission is not in 3rd gear (that means, the transmission is in 1st or 2nd gear), the ground speed limitation function requests a fixed engine speed (1650 rpm) in order to decrease the current ground speed of the forage harvester. The ground speed limitation function ensures safe forage harvester operation.
