Terminating Resistors and CAN Bus Diagnostic Connector

Terminating resistors are located at the beginning and end of the CAN Bus communication lines. The terminating resistors are required to provide power and ground to run the bus, the signal lines CAN High and CAN Low, the termination impedance and to reduce faults in the communication lines. Disconnecting one or both terminators may result in a loss of bus communication. There are two types of terminating resistor, namely 6-terminal and 4-terminal types. The two types have the same layout and serve the same function. The 6-terminal type also provides the CAN Bus system with voltage.
