Service Transmission

Transmission Oil

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Dirt and debris in the hydraulic oil can cause damage to the transmission:

· Do not drain or change the transmission oil.

· See your John Deere dealer for service.

· Do not mix transmission oils.

SAE 5W30 engine oil with API classification of SE or higher is recommended in the transmission.

Checking Transmission Oil Level

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Dirt and debris in the hydraulic oil can cause damage to the transmission:

· Do not drain or change the transmission oil.

· See your John Deere dealer for service.

· Do not mix transmission oils.

1. Park machine safely on a level surface. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Hot hydraulic oil will expand and show incorrect oil level. Check level in reservoir when engine is off and oil is cold.

2. Allow machine to cool.

3. Locate transmission oil reservoir at rear of machine. Reservoir is marked FULL (A) and ADD (B).

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Contamination can damage the hydraulic system. Clean thoroughly around reservoir fill cap before opening.

MX8395

4. If oil level is low, slide operator's seat ahead and tip it forward to access reservoir (C). Clean area around reservoir cap.

5. Remove cap and filter (D).

6. Add SAE 5W30 oil until oil level is at FULL mark on reservoir.

7. Install filter and cap.

8. Lower and adjust operator's seat.

9. Start engine.

10. Operate machine forward and in reverse several times.

11. Park machine safely on a level surface. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

12. Wait at least 3 minutes for hydraulic oil to cool.

13. Check oil level again. Add oil if necessary.

Adjusting Cruise Control Lever

NOTE: The cruise control lever is held in position by an adjustable friction mechanism pre-set at the factory. The amount of friction can be adjusted for the operator's preference or to accommodate normal wear.

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

Picture Note: Right wheel shown removed for clarity. Removal of wheel is not required.

2. Locate adjusting bolt (A) at right wheel well.

3. Turn adjusting bolt so cruise control lever moves easily forward and rearward while remaining stationary in any desired position:

· Clockwise (+) - increases friction on lever.

· Counterclockwise (-) - decreases friction on lever.
