Operate Safely

· Check vehicle brake action before you operate. Adjust or service brakes as necessary.

· Inspect machine before you operate. Be sure hardware is tight. Repair or replace damaged badly worn, or missing parts. Be sure guards and shields are in good condition and fastened in place. Make any necessary adjustments before you operate.

· Clear work area of objects that might be thrown. Keep people and pets out of the work area. Stop machine if anyone enters the area.

· If you hit an object, stop the machine and inspect it. Make repairs before you operate. Keep machine properly maintained and in good working order.

· DO NOT leave machine unattended when it is running.

· Only operate during daylight or with good artificial light.

· Look carefully behind tractor before you back up.

· DO NOT let anyone, especially children, ride on machine or vehicle. Riders are subject to injury such as being struck by foreign objects and being thrown off. Riders may also obstruct the operator's view, resulting in the machine being operated in an unsafe manner.

· Do not wear radio or music headphones while operating the machine. Safe operation requires your full attention.

· DO NOT let children or an untrained person operate machine.

· Be alert for traffic when crossing or working near roadways.

· Be alert. DO NOT operate Snowthrower when you are tired or ill or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

· DO NOT operate tractor at high speeds.

· Do not throw snow toward bystanders, buildings, or automobiles.

· Throw snow downwind, if possible.

· Clean snowthrower after you use it.

· Use OPTIONAL drift blade to help cut through drifted snow.

· Operate snowthrower at full throttle and a safe travel speed.

· Be extremely careful if you must clear snow from a gravel surface.

· Operate slowly and carefully on slopes and in sharp turns.

· DO NOT operate near edge of ditch or bank. Avoid holes, rocks, and roots. Be alert for hidden hazards.

· Drive up and down-not across slopes.

Wear Appropriate Clothing

· Wear close fitting clothing and safety equipment appropriate for the job.

· Loud noise can cause impairment or loss of hearing, wear a suitable protective device such as earplugs.

Stay Clear of Rotating Drivelines


MIF

Entanglement in rotating driveline can cause serious injury or death:

· Wear close fitting clothing.

· STOP the engine and be sure PTO driveline is stopped before getting near it.

Avoid Injury from Moving Parts

· Keep hands, feet and clothing away from snowthrower and discharge chute when auger is turning.

· Stop auger when you are not throwing snow.

· Stop vehicle engine before you unplug, repair, or adjust snowthrower.

Avoid Injury from Hitting Obstructions

· Raise snowthrower when you drive between jobs.

· Slow down when you remove snow. Be cautious on slopes, when you make turns or when close to buildings or trees.

Before Operating Snowthrower

· Learn all controls and how they work. Read your Tractor's Operator Manual, if necessary.

· STOP engine.

· LOCK park brake.

· Remove key.

· Make operating adjustments as necessary.

· Tighten loose hardware.

Daily Operating Checklist

o Lubricate worm gear.

o Adjust belt tension.

Snowthrowing Tips

Install tire chains and rear weights on tractor.

Adjust runners before you clear snow.

Operate snowthrower at full throttle.

Operate snowthrower at safe travel speed.

Slow down:

· On slopes.

· When you make turns.

· When you throw snow close to buildings or trees.

Raise snowthrower when you drive between jobs.

Use optional drift blade to help cut through drifted snow.

Throw snow downwind, if possible.

If you hit an object:

· STOP snowthrower immediately.

· Fix damage before you use snowthrower again.

Before you clean or unplug snowthrower:

· Put PTO switch in OFF position.

· STOP engine.

· LOCK park brake.

· Wait for ALL moving parts to STOP.

Clean snowthrower after you use it.

Stopping Tractor and Snowthrower

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Avoid damaging tractor hood:

Lower snowthrower to the ground first and then open hood carefully.


When stopping tractor, do the following:

1. Put transmission in NEUTRAL position.

2. Lower snowthrower to ground.

3. STOP engine.

5. Remove key (B).

Raising and Lowering Snowthrower

To RAISE snowthrower: Pull lift lever (A) all the way back.

To LOWER snowthrower: Push lift lever (A) all the way forward to latch into LOCK-OUT position.

Adjusting Lift Height

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Before adjusting lift height: · STOP engine. · LOCK park brake.

· Snowthrower Lift can be adjusted by turning two yokes on snowthrower frame (A) OR yoke attached to lift rod (B).

· To INCREASE lift height: Loosen jam nut (C) and turn yoke (D) clockwise. Tighten nut.

· To DECREASE lift height: Loosen jam nut (C) and turn yoke (D) counterclockwise. Tighten nut.

Lift snowthrower to check adjustment and make further adjustments, if necessary.

Adjusting Lift Effort

Lift effort can be reduced by moving J-bracket (A) lower on lift handle of tractor. However, this will reduce amount of lift height as well as decrease amount of distance snowthrower will go below grade.

Additional lift height adjustments can then be made by adjusting lift yokes on lift rod or lift arms. (See Adjusting Lift Height in this section.)

Leveling Snowthrower

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Before leveling snowthrower: · STOP engine. · LOCK park brake.

1. Pull lift lever back to RAISE snowthrower fully.

2. Measure distance from each end of scraper blade to floor. Each end should be approximately 102 mm (4 in.) (A) from floor when snowthrower is FULLY RAISED.

3. Adjust yokes on snowthrower frame if necessary:

· Loosen jam nut (B) on yoke (C) on LOW side of snowthrower.

· Adjust yoke until snowthrower is level.

· Tighten jam nut.

4. Adjust yokes as needed.

Adjusting Scraper Blade Clearance

1. Lower snowthrower to the ground.

2. For clearing snow from a SMOOTH surface:

· Loosen cap screws (A).

· Adjust runners so scraper blade is 2-3 mm (1/16-1/8 in.) above surface.

· Tighten cap screws.

3. For clearing snow from a ROUGH or a GRAVEL surface:

· Adjust runners for more clearance.

· Check Adjustment: Scraper blade should clear away maximum amount of snow without picking up rocks.

Adjusting Chute

1. Chute will turn 108° to each side.

2. Turn handle (A) to move chute to desired position.

Adjusting Spout

· To move spout cap DOWN: Pull up on handle (A) of cable assembly.

· To move spout cap UP: Push handle (A) in.

· To LOCK spout cap in place: Turn handle (A) right or left.

NOTE: If handle does not move freely, loosen bolts (B), one on each side of spout cap.

Operating Snowthrower

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Thrown objects can cause injury. Before you operate snowthrower: Clear area of bystanders and pick up objects which may be thrown by snowthrower.

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! To help prevent clutch damage: DO NOT engage PTO with throttle in the FAST position.


1. Start engine.

2. Put throttle lever (A) at ONE-FOURTH position.

3. Lower snowthrower to the ground.

4. Pull PTO knob (B) UP to ENGAGE snowthrower.

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! For best snowthrower and engine performance, operate at a FAST engine speed.


5. Move throttle lever to the FAST position.

6. UNLOCK the park brake.

Inspect, Unplug, or Park Snowthrower Safely

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! If you get off operator's seat when engine and snowthrower are running, engine and snowthrower MUST STOP. If not, have electrical system checked.


1. STOP tractor.

2. Push PTO knob (A) down to DISENGAGE.

3. Lower snowthrower to the ground.

4. LOCK the park brake (B).

5. STOP the engine.

6. Remove the key (C).

7. Wait for rotor to STOP.

Transporting

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! ALWAYS LOWER SNOWTHROWER to trailer deck when transporting.


1. Drive tractor and snowthrower onto heavy-duty trailer.

2. LOWER SNOWTHROWER to trailer deck.

3. STOP engine.

4. LOCK park brake.

5. Fasten tractor and snowthrower to deck with straps, chains, or cables.

6. Trailer must have lights and signs required by law.
