Servicing Your Machine

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Operating in extreme conditions may require more frequent service intervals:

ˇ Engine components may become dirty or plugged when operating in extreme heat, dust or other severe conditions.

ˇ Engine oil and spark plugs may lose efficiency if vehicle is operated constantly at slow or low engine speeds or with frequent short trips.


Please use the following timetables to perform routine maintenance on your machine.

Before Each Use

ˇ Check engine oil level.

ˇ Check coolant level, if equipped.

ˇ Clean air intake screens.

Initial Break In

After First 5 Hours of Operation:

ˇ Check/tighten wheel bolts.

After First 25 Hours of Operation:

ˇ Check/tighten loose hardware.

ˇ Change engine oil and filter (model 325 and 335).

After First 50 Hours of Operation:

ˇ Change transmission oil and filter.

ˇ Change engine oil (model 325 and 335).

ˇ Change engine oil and filter (model 345).

Annually or at Hour Meter Reading (whichever comes first)

ˇ Check/tighten loose hardware.

ˇ Check battery electrolyte level.

ˇ Clean battery.

ˇ Check radiator hoses and clamps, if equipped.

ˇ Check and clean air cleaner element.

ˇ Change engine oil and filter (all models).

ˇ Inspect and/or regap spark plug(s).

Every two years or at Hour Meter Reading (whichever comes first)

ˇ Replace fuel filter.

ˇ Change radiator coolant, if equipped.

Service More Frequently Under Dusty or Dirty Conditions

ˇ Check and clean air cleaner element.

ˇ Change engine oil and filter.

Every 50 Hours

ˇ Check tire pressure and adjust if necessary.

ˇ Check transmission oil.

ˇ Test safety systems.

ˇ Lubricate front wheel spindles and axle pivot.

ˇ Lubricate mower gage wheels.

ˇ Lubricate mower blade spindles.

ˇ Check and clean air cleaner element.

ˇ Check/tighten wheel bolts.

Every 100 Hours

ˇ Check/tighten loose hardware.

ˇ Check battery electrolyte level.

ˇ Clean battery.

ˇ Inspect and/or regap spark plug(s).

ˇ Change engine oil and filter (model 325 and 335).

Every 200 Hours

ˇ Check radiator hoses and clamps, if equipped.

ˇ Change engine oil and filter (model 345).

ˇ Replace fuel filter.

Every 300 Hours

ˇ Change transmission oil and filter.

Every 400 Hours

ˇ Change radiator coolant, if equipped.

500 Hours

NOTE: See your John Deere dealer for these services.

ˇ Check engine idle speeds.

ˇ Check carburetor adjustment.

ˇ Check and adjust valve clearance.

ˇ Check fuel lines.
