Service TransmissionTransmission Oil
These machines are equipped with an internal wet disc brake transmission. Use only Low Viscosity HY-GARDŽ (J20D) transmission oil. Do not use type "F" automatic transmission fluid. John Deere Low Viscosity HY-GARDŽ (J20D) transmission oil is specially formulated to provide maximum protection against mechanical wear, corrosion, and foaming. It may be used in all operating temperatures. Checking Transmission Oil Level1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in Safety section.)
3. Locate transmission oil reservoir at rear of machine. Reservoir is marked full (A) and add (B).
4. If oil level is low, slide operator's seat ahead and tip it forward to access reservoir (C). Clean area around reservoir cap. 6. Add HY-GARDŽ (J20D) oil until oil level is at full mark on reservoir. 8. Lower and adjust operator's seat. 10. Operate machine forward and in reverse several times. 11. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in Safety section.) 12. Wait at least three minutes for hydraulic oil to cool. 13. Check oil level again. Add oil if necessary. Changing Transmission Oil1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in Safety section.) NOTE: Transmission is divided into two internally connected cavities. Rear drain plug (A) will drain differential gear side and front plug (B) will drain hydrostatic side. 3. Place drain pan under drain plugs (A) and (B). Remove plugs.
NOTE: Do not remove sealed black cap (C). Fill only at reservoir bottle. 4. Clean area around transmission fill cap on transmission oil reservoir (D). 5. Remove fill cap and reservoir filter to improve drainage. Allow to drain completely. 6. Install and tighten transmission drain plugs to 15 Nˇm (133 lb-in.). 7. Add approximately 4.4 L (4.6 qt) John Deere Low Viscosity HY-GARDŽ (J20D) to transmission reservoir (D) until oil level is at full mark. Install reservoir filter and cap. 9. Check for leaks around drain plugs and hydraulic filter. 10. Operate machine forward and in reverse several times. 11. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in Safety section.) 12. Wait at least three minutes for hydraulic oil to cool. 13. Check oil level in reservoir. Add oil to reservoir if necessary. Adjusting Cruise Control LeverNOTE: Cruise control lever is held in position by an adjustable friction mechanism pre-set at factory. Amount of friction can be adjusted to operator's preference or to accommodate normal wear. 1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in Safety section.) Picture Note: Right wheel shown removed for clarity. Removal of wheel is not required. 2. Locate adjusting bolt (A) at right wheel well. 3. Turn adjusting bolt so cruise control lever moves easily forward and rearward while remaining stationary in any desired position: |
