Connect and Check Battery

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Prevent Battery Explosions:

· Keep sparks, lighted matches, and open flame away from the top of battery. Battery gas can explode.

· Never check battery charge by placing a metal object across the posts. Use a volt-meter or hydrometer.

· Do not charge a frozen battery; it may explode. Warm battery to 16 degrees C (60 degrees F).

Battery is filled with acid and charged when it left the factory. To extend battery life, charge the battery prior to delivery.

1. Check battery voltage. Battery should be charged if voltage is below 12.3 volts. Battery is fully charged at 12.6 volts. (See Charging the Battery in the Service-Electrical section.)

NOTE: Do not remove the BLACK negative (-) protective cap at this time.

2. Remove and discard the RED positive (+) protective cap from the positive (+) battery terminal.

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! For proper machine operation, battery cables must be installed correctly.

NOTE: On GT225 route positive (+) cable (C) BEHIND fuel line (D).

5. Connect black NEGATIVE (-) cable (B) to battery. Apply general purpose grease to terminals to prevent corrosion. Make sure connection is tight.

6. Inspect retaining strap (C). Battery must be held securely in place.

Check Engine Oil Level

M96057

1. Remove dipstick (A) and wipe off with a clean cloth.

2. Install dipstick into tube:

· On GT225; DO NOT TIGHTEN dipstick. Let dipstick threads rest on top of tube, rotate cap counterclockwise until it "clicks" or drops into the dipstick tube.

· On GT235: tighten cap to check oil level.

3. Remove dipstick. Check oil level on dipstick.

MIF

4. Oil must be between ADD and FULL marks on dipstick.

NOTE: Crankcase capacity is approximately:

· On GT225: 1.8 L (1.9 qts.)

· On GT235: 1.65 L (1.75 qts.)

5. If oil level is low, add oil to bring oil level no higher than FULL mark on dipstick. (See Engine Oil in this section for type of oil.)

6. Install and tighten dipstick.

Remind customer about initial break-in, change engine oil and filter after first 25 hours and 50 hours of operation.

Check Tire Pressure

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Tires are over-inflated during tractor assembly to improve bead sealing. During tractor set up, be sure to check tire pressure and adjust if necessary.
