Preparing Mower

NOTE: 420 and 430 Tractors-AM118915 Template Kit, ordered separately, is used to PREPARE MOWER. Complete the installation using this manual.

Remove Shield And Sheave Knockout - Model 425, 445, And 455 Lawn Tractors (Metal Shield)

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Mower deck and blades have sharp edges. Wear gloves or wrap cloth around sharp edges to avoid injury.

NOTE: Older model mowers have yellow metal shields. Newer models have black plastic shields. Refer to proper instructions for your mower model.

1. Put your mower in lowest position. You DO NOT have to remove mower from the tractor to install this POWER FLOW attachment. Mower removed for photo clarity ONLY.

2. Use 15 mm wrench to remove two M10 nuts (A). Open latches (B) to remove right mower shield.

3. Put shield on hard surface. Use a chisel or punch to separate knockouts at six points (C).

NOTE: Use screwdriver with large blade end in slots when removing insert to prevent shield from distorting.

4. Put large screwdriver, with large blade end, in slots to work panel back and forth to remove panel.

5. File off any burrs.

2. Use 15 mm socket wrench to remove one M10 nut (A) and large washer. Remove right shield.

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! DO NOT cut through bottom edge (C) of deck shield.


NOTE: Scribed lines are whitened in the photo for visual aid.

3. On the underside of the shield, locate cut-out areas marked with lines (B) scribed in plastic material.

4. Cut carefully along scribed lines to remove indicated parts (D) of shield. Use tin snips or other appropriate cutting tool to cut out necessary plastic shield material.

Install Double Sheave

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! For some models it may be necessary to file or chisel weld spatter from top (A) of single sheave weldment. Flange of double sheave MUST seat flush against single sheave for proper operation.

1. Loosen mower belt (A).

2. Remove spindle locknut (B) to remove and discard sheave (C). Replace with new sheave from kit and install locknut.

3. Tighten mower belt.

4. Install double sheave with two M8x25 bolts and flange nuts (D). Flange of double sheave MUST seat against single sheave. Nuts are on top of double sheave flange.

Install Belt Shield Support And Mower Shield

NOTE: Right-rear gauge wheel is turned for easier installation of support (A).

1. Install belt shield support (A) to deck with two M6x20 cap screws (B) and nuts.

2. Install mower shield.

ˇ For Mower models with metal shield:

Install shield on deck with nut(s) (C). Lock latch(es) (D).

ˇ For Mower models with plastic shield:

Slide front of shield under two clips (E) on deck. Slide left side of shield against center bracket. Center tab (F) should be above bracket edge and front and rear tabs should be under bracket edge.

Install washer and M10 nut (G) removed when shield was removed. Use 15 mm socket wrench to tighten nut.

Install Plastic Belt Shield

NOTE: Shield for 60-Inch Mower on 425, 445, and 455 Tractor shown in photo.

1. Fasten plastic belt shield to support with tie straps (A). Cut off ends of tie straps. Tab (B) on shield will snap under deck support tube (C) when closed.

Adjust Gauge Wheels

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! DO NOT put rear gauge wheels in lowest CUT HEIGHT position when operating POWER FLOW. Belt will rub on right wheel. Both rear gauge wheels should run on ground. This will keep mower level when POWER FLOW is attached.


1. Adjust rear gauge wheels to 12.5 mm (1/2 in.) lower than front caster wheel(s) and/or roller.

(Example) If 38 mm (1.5 in.) cutting height is desired, front roller/caster is set at 25 mm (1 in.) and rear gauge wheels are set at 38 mm (1.5 in.). Mower will be level at 38 mm (1.5 in.) when POWER FLOW is attached.

Fasten side mounting bracket to right front gauge wheel support bracket with M10x20 self-tapping bolt (A) and M12x25 cap screw and nut (B). Tighten M10 bolt to 11 N.m (8 lb-ft) and M12 cap screw to 87 N.m (62 lb-ft).

Cut Discharge Chute Stop - 420 And 430 Tractors

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! NEVER operate mower without discharge chute in place.

1. If discharge chute stop (A) protrudes over chute edge:

ˇ Remove bolts and nuts (B) on each side of chute. Retain hardware for use if using mower with POWER FLOW removed.

ˇ Remove discharge chute.

ˇ Cut off protruding stop even with chute.This will allow chute to pivot open enough to attach POWER FLOW.

2. Fasten discharge chute to mower with hinge hardware. DO NOT INSTALL BOLTS AND NUTS (B) ON SIDES OF CHUTE. Discharge chute must lift up to install POWER FLOW.
