Service ElectricalBattery Statement
WARNING: Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead components, chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
Checking the Battery (Sealed Batteries)NOTE: Do not attempt to open, add fluid or service battery. Any attempt to do so will void warranty. · Keep battery and terminals clean.
· Recharge, if necessary, at 6- 10 amperes for 1 hour. Cleaning or Replacing Battery1. Disconnect rubber hold-down strap (C). 2. Remove negative (black) cable (A) from the battery first. 3. Remove positive (red) cable. · Pull red terminal cover (B) back far enough to expose terminal. 4. If battery is very dirty, remove battery. 5. Clean battery, battery terminals, cable ends, hold-down, and battery tray with a solution of 1 part baking soda to 4 parts water. Keep solution out of battery cells. NOTE: If a new battery is required, install a replacement John Deere battery or an equivalent. (See your John Deere dealer.) 6. Rinse all parts with clean water. Let dry. 8. Connect positive (red) cable to battery. · Install red terminal cover (B). 9. Connect negative (black) cable (A) to battery. 10. Apply petroleum jelly on battery terminals to help prevent corrosion. 11. Install rubber hold-down strap (C). Cleaning Battery and Terminals
1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the Safety section.) 2. Disconnect and remove battery. 3. Wash battery with solution of four tablespoons of baking soda to one gallon of water. Be careful not to get the soda solution into the cells. 4. Rinse the battery with plain water and dry. 5. Clean terminals and battery cable ends with wire brush until bright. 6. Apply petroleum jelly or silicone spray to terminal to prevent corrosion. Using Booster Battery1. Connect positive (+) booster cable to booster battery (A) positive (+) post (C). 2. Connect the other end of positive (+) booster cable to the disabled vehicle battery (B) positive (+) post (D). 3. Connect negative (-) booster cable to booster battery negative (-) post (E). 4. Connect the other end (F) of negative (-) booster cable to a metal part of the disabled machine frame away from battery. 5. Start the engine of the disabled machine and run machine for several minutes. 6. Carefully disconnect the booster cables in the exact reverse order: negative cable first and then the positive cable. Replacing Fuses
1. Lift and secure operator seat in the raised position. 2. Locate and replace defective fuse. |
