Adjust Park Brake

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Due to initial brake wear, the brakes should be checked and adjusted after the first 25 hours of use.

A park brake that is adjusted too tightly could damage the transmission or cause premature brake wear.

NOTE: This adjustment should be performed on a level hard surface such as a blacktop parking lot.

Test Brakes:

1. Park machine on a hard level surface.

2. Pull up the steering control levers (A) and push neutral locks (B) forward with thumbs.

3. Move the speed control lever to the "Z" position.

4. Pull free-wheeling levers (C) to the rear and latch into position shown.

5. Push and pull the machine. Rear drive wheels should skid.

· Properly adjusted brakes must prevent drive wheels from turning.

· If the drive wheels turn, a brake adjustment will be needed.

6. Release free-wheeling levers (C).

7. Pull up steering control levers (A) to release neutral locks (B).

8. Start engine.

9. Move speed control lever forward 25 mm (1 in.).

10. Drive wheels should just start to turn freely and machine should begin to travel forward.

· Brakes are adjusted too tight if an audible hydrostatic transmission whine is detected and the machine does not move.

Adjust Brakes: Fine Adjustment

1. Place speed control lever in the "Z" position.

2. Locate park brake fine adjustment behind the machine console.

3. Loosen jam nuts (D).

· To decrease brake tension, turn bottom jam nut left.

· To increase brake tension, turn bottom jam nut right.

· Tighten upper jam nut.

· Check adjustment by testing the brake.

Adjust Brakes: Course Adjustment

NOTE: A park brake course adjustment is only recommended when the fine adjustment has been completely used up.

In most instances a park brake adjustment can be accomplished with a fine adjustment. If further park brake adjustment is required:

1. Place speed control lever in the "Z" position.

2. Before attempting a park brake course adjustment:

· Loosen both fine adjustment jam nuts (D).

· Turn bottom jam nut fully to the bottom of the fine adjustment assembly.

3. Locate park brake course adjustment:

· Loosen course adjustment jam nuts (E).

· Turn jam nuts 6 mm (1/4 in.) to the right on the adjustment cable.

· Tighten jam nuts (E).

4. Return to the park brake fine adjustment. Make a fine adjustment and tighten jam nuts (D).

5. Test and adjust brakes as necessary.
