Storing MachineStoring SafelyPreparing Engine for Storage1. Put John Deere Gasoline Storage Stabilizer or an equivalent in the fuel tank. Follow the directions on the can. 2. Run engine for at least 10 minutes to make sure stabilizer gets into carburetor. 3. Change engine oil when engine is warm. (See Changing Engine Oil And Filter in the Service - Engine section.) 4. Remove spark plug. Put 30 mL (1 oz.) of clean engine oil in cylinders. 5. Install spark plug, but do not connect spark plug wire. 6. Crank the engine five or six times to distribute oil. 7. Clean the engine and engine area. Storing Machine1. Remove the battery (if equipped): · Clean it. Check the electrolyte level. (See Checking Battery Electrolyte Level in the Service - Electrical section.) · Charge the battery. (See Charging The Battery in the Service - Electrical section.) · Store the battery in a cool, dry place where it will not freeze. 2. Repair worn or damaged parts. Replace parts if necessary. Tighten loose hardware. 4. Paint scratched or chipped areas to prevent rust. 6. Store the vehicle in a dry, protected place. If unit is stored outside, put a waterproof cover over it. Removing Machine From Storage1. Check tire pressure and fill tires with air. (See Checking Tire Pressure in Service - Miscellaneous section.) 2. Fill fuel tank. Open fuel shut-off valve. Check engine oil level. 3. Check battery electrolyte level. Charge battery if necessary. Install battery. 4. Check spark plug gap. Install and tighten spark plug (see appropriate Service - Engine section for specifications). 5. Lubricate all grease points. 6. Check transmission and engine oil level. |
