Storing Safety

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Engine exhaust fumes can cause sickness or death.

ˇ If it is necessary to run an engine in an enclosed area, use an exhaust pipe extension to remove the fumes. Always try to work in a well ventilated area.

ˇ DO NOT store vehicle with fuel in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

ˇ Allow engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.

ˇ Remove the battery and store it in a cool dry place where it will not freeze, and where children cannot reach it.

Storing Front Mower

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Store battery where children cannot reach it.

1. Remove battery:

ˇ Clean battery and posts.

ˇ Check electrolyte level. (See Checking Battery Electrolyte Level in service battery section.)

ˇ Charge battery. (See Charging Battery in service battery section.)

ˇ Store battery in a cool, dry place.

2. Repair worn or damaged parts. Replace parts if necessary.

3. Tighten loose hardware.

4. Clean Front Mower.

5. Apply paint on areas that need it
to prevent rust.

6. Apply multipurpose grease on exposed lift cylinder rod. Lubricate grease points. (See Lubricate Lift Cylinder in service section.)

7. Release hydraulic pressure:
Move hydraulic control lever back and forth.

8. Store Front Mower in a dry,
protected place. If Front Mower is
stored outside, put a waterproof
cover over it. Your John Deere dealer has a storage cover to fit Front Mower.

9. Put blocks or support stands under Front Mower to take weight off tires. Let 1/3 of air out of tires.

Removing Front Mower From Storage

1. Check tire pressure.

2. Remove blocks or supports from under Front Mower.

3. Fill fuel tank.

4. Wipe grease off cylinder rods.

5. Check battery electrolyte level. Charge battery if necessary. Install battery.

6. Lubricate all grease points. (See Service\Miscellaneous section.)

7. Check transmission oil level.

8. Check shield and guards.

9. Run engine 5 minutes before you put engine under load.
