Troubleshooting


Using Troubleshooting Chart

If you are experiencing a problem that is not listed in this chart, see your John Deere dealer for service.

When you have checked all the possible causes listed and you are still experiencing the problem, see your John Deere dealer.

Engine

If

Check

Engine will not start

ˇ Battery has low voltage.

ˇ Loose or corroded battery connections.

ˇ Fusible link is melted

ˇ Fuel shut-off valve turned off.

ˇ No fuel or improper fuel.

ˇ Plugged fuel filter.

ˇ Water entering fuel system

ˇ Defective starter solenoid.

ˇ Open-circuit of wires.

Engine is hard to start

ˇ Engine is cold.

ˇ Plugged fuel filter.

ˇ Loose or corroded electrical connections.

ˇ Stale or improper fuel.

Engine misses under load

ˇ Stale or dirty fuel.

ˇ Plugged fuel filter.

Engine vapor locks

ˇ Fuel tank vent plugged

ˇ Dirt in fuel filter.

Engine runs unevenly

ˇ Loose electrical connections.

ˇ Fuel line or fuel filter plugged.

ˇ Improper fuel

Engine overheats

Engine knocks
