Transaxle Oil


MIF

Use oil viscosity based on the expected air temperature range during the period between oil changes.

The following John Deere transmission and hydraulic oil is preferred:

ˇ HY-GARDŽ (JDM J20C)

Other oils may be used if recommended John Deere oil is not available, provided they meet one of the following specifications:

ˇ John Deere Standard JDM J20C

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! DO NOT use engine oil, "Type F" (Red) Automatic Transmission Fluid, or BIO-HY-GARDŽ. DO NOT mix any other oils in this transmission.


Changing Transaxle Oil

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Check transaxle oil level as needed or if leaks are detected.


NOTE: Check oil level when transaxle is cold.

1. Park vehicle safely. (See Park Safely in the Safety section.)

2. Clean area around fill/drain plug (A) located on the right side of the transaxle cover plate.

3. Loosen and remove fill/drain plug.

4. Remove oil by suction through fill/drain opening.

5. Add approximately 0.5 L (15 oz.) of oil into the fill opening.

6. Check oil level:

ˇ Oil should be maintained level to 3 mm (1/8 in.) below the bottom of the fill/drain hole.

7. Install fill/drain plug.

ˇ Tighten to 27-41 Nˇm (20-30 lb.-ft.).
