Storing VehicleStoring SafetyStoring Engine1. Add John Deere storage stabilizer or equivalent to fuel tank. Follow directions on can. 2. Run engine 10 minutes so stabilizer reaches carburetor. 3. Change engine oil when engine is warm. (See Changing Engine Oil in Service - Engine section.) 4. Remove spark plugs. Put 30 ml (1 oz) of clean engine oil into cylinders. 6. Turn key to crank engine five or six times. 8. Clean the engine and the area around it: remove oil, grease, and dirt. 9. Apply paint on parts of the engine that need it to prevent rust. ˇ Check electrolyte level. (See Checking Battery Electrolyte Level in Service - Electrical section.) ˇ Charge battery. (See Charging Battery in Service - Electrical section.) ˇ Store battery in a cool, dry place. 2. Repair worn or damaged parts. Replace parts if necessary. 5. Apply paint on areas that need it to prevent rust. 6. Apply multipurpose grease on exposed lift cylinder rod. Lubricate grease points. (See Lubricate Lift Cylinder in service section.) 7. Release hydraulic pressure: Move hydraulic control lever back and forth. 8. Store Front Mower in a dry, protected place. If Front Mower is stored outside, put a waterproof cover over it. Your John Deere dealer has a storage cover to fit Front Mower. 9. Put blocks or support stands under Front Mower to take weight off tires. Let 1/3 of air out of tires. Removing Front Mower From Storage2. Remove blocks or supports from under Front Mower. 4. Wipe grease off cylinder rods. 5. Check battery electrolyte level. Charge battery if necessary. Install battery. 6. Check spark plug gap. Install and tighten plugs to 20 Nˇm (15 lb-ft). 7. Lubricate all grease points. (See Service - Miscellaneous section.) |
