Service - Lubrication


Grease

Use grease based on the expected air temperature range during the service interval.

The following greases are preferred:

ˇ John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease.

ˇ Meets NLGI Grade #2 Standard JDM J13E4.

ˇ John Deere Multi-Purpose HD Lithium Complex Grease.

ˇ John Deere Moly High Temperature EP Grease.

Other greases may be used are:

ˇ SAE Multipurpose EP Grease with 3 to 5 percent molybdenum disulfide.

ˇ SAE Multipurpose EP Grease.

ˇ Greases meeting Military Specification MIL-G-10924C may be used as arctic grease.

Lubricate Front Caster Wheels

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! To avoid injury, DO NOT lubricate machine while the engine is running.

NOTE: DO NOT over lubricate. Excess grease could fall from mower during operation.

Clean grease fitting before lubricating. Replace missing or broken grease fittings immediately.

ˇ Lubricate two spindle grease fittings (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

ˇ Lubricate two wheel bearing grease fittings (B) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

Lubricate Deck Lift Blocks

NOTE: Adjust the mower deck to a lower cutting height position when performing this service procedure.

ˇ Lubricate four deck lift block grease fittings (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

Lubricate Park Brake Assemblies

NOTE: Drive wheels need to be removed to lubricate park brake assembly grease fittings.

ˇ A park brake assembly grease fitting is located on each side of the machine.

ˇ Lubricate two park brake assembly grease fittings (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

Lubricate Deck Lift Pivot

ˇ Lubricate one deck lift pivot grease fitting (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

Lubricate Pump Idler Pivot

ˇ Lubricate one pump idler pivot grease fitting (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

Lubricate Mower Deck Spindles

NOTE: Removal of belt shields and foot plate is not necessary to lubricate the spindles.

ˇ Lubricate three mower deck spindle grease fittings (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

Lubricate Mower Deck Idler Pivot

1. Remove mower deck foot plate (A).

ˇ Loosen and remove knobs (B).

2. Lubricate one deck idler pivot grease fitting (C) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.

3. Install foot plate.

Lubricate Mower Deck Struts

ˇ A strut assembly grease fitting is located on each side of the machine.

ˇ Lubricate two strut grease fittings (A) with John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease or an equivalent.
