StorageStoring SafetyStoring the Machine1. Put John Deere Gasoline Storage Stabilizer or an equivalent in the fuel tank. Follow the directions on the can. 2. Run engine for at least 10 minutes to make sure stabilizer gets into carburetor. 3. Change engine oil when engine is warm. 4. Remove spark plugs. Put 30 mL (1 oz.) of clean engine oil into each cylinder. 5. Install spark plugs, but do not connect spark plug wires. 6. Crank the engine five or six times to distribute oil. 7. Turn fuel shut-off valve to the closed position. 8. Repair worn or damaged parts. Install new parts if necessary. 12. Clean engine and area around it. Remove oil, grease, and dirt. 13. Check engine compartment hoses. 14. Clean engine oil cooling fins. 15. Clean engine air intake screen. 16. Clean engine cooling fins. 17. Apply paint to areas that need it to prevent rust. 18. Remove and clean battery. Charge battery. Store battery in a cool, dry place to preserve battery life. 19. Store the machine in a dry, protected place. If unit is stored outside, put a waterproof cover over it. 20. Put blocks or stands under machine to take weight off tires. Let 1/3 of air out of tires. 21. Clean the pump drive belt with a damp rag. Check belt for damage. Removing Machine From Storage1. Check tire pressure and fill tires with air. 2. Check and tighten wheel hardware. 3. Charge battery if necessary. Install battery. 6. Check hydraulic oil level in reservoir. 7. Lubricate all grease points. 9. Fill fuel tank with fresh clean fuel. 10. Run engine five minutes at slow-medium idle before putting engine under load. |
