c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Engine exhaust fumes can cause sickness or death. · If it is necessary to run an engine in an enclosed area, use an exhaust pipe extension to remove the fumes. Always try to work in a well ventilated area. · DO NOT store vehicle with fuel in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark. · Allow engine to cool before storing in any enclosure. · Remove the battery and store it in a cool dry place where it will not freeze, and where children cannot reach it.

Storing The Mower

1. Change engine oil and filter when engine is warm. (See Changing Engine Oil And Filter in Service - Engine section.)

2. Clean the engine and engine compartment.

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Store battery where children cannot reach it.

3. Remove the battery. Clean it. Check the electrolyte level. (See Checking Battery Electrolyte Level in the Service - Electrical section.) Charge the battery. (See Charging Battery in the Service - Electrical section.) Store the battery in a cool, dry place where it will not freeze.

4. Repair worn or damaged parts. Install new parts if necessary. Tighten loose hardware.

5. Check air restriction indicator to determine if air cleaner needs servicing.

6. Service air cleaner.

7. Lubricate all grease points.

8. Grease rear wheel bearings.

9. Grease pivot for rear wheel fork.

10. Wash mower.

NOTE: Start engine and run for a couple of minutes to remove water. Stop engine.

11. Check engine compartment hoses.

12. Flush cooling system and replace coolant.

13. Clean radiator fins.

14. Adjust parking brake.

15. Apply paint to areas that need it to prevent rust.

16. Store mower in a dry, protected place. If storing mower outside, put a waterproof cover over it.

17. Put blocks or stands under mower to take weight off tires. Let 1/3 of air out of tires.

18. Inspect power brush drive belt.

19. Backlap cutting units.

20. Close fuel shut-off valves.

21. Apply multipurpose lubricant on exposed cylinder rods.

22. Clean all cutting units to remove grass cutting and dirt.

23. Install new fuel filter element, hydraulic oil, and filter.

24. Clean hydraulic oil reservoir strainer.

25. Apply a coating of oil to cutting reel and bottom blade. Spray John Deere Multipurpose spray lubricant on rollers. Do not wipe off. This will work as a good rust preventative.

Removing Mower From Storage

1. Check tire pressure and fill tires with air. (See Checking Tire Pressure in (Service Miscellaneous section.)

2. Take greensmower off of the blocks or support stands.

3. Check engine oil level.

4. Check battery electrolyte level. Charge battery (11.6 Volts) if necessary. Install battery.

5. Lubricate all grease points.

6. Wipe grease off reels.

7. Check hydraulic oil level in reservoir.

8. Install cutting units if removed.

9. Check hoses (air intake, fuel, hydraulic, cooling system), clamps, and connections.

10. Be sure shields and guards are in place.

11. Open fuel shut-off valves.

12. Fill fuel tanks with fresh clean fuel.

c CAUTION: Avoid injury! Start engine ONLY in a well-ventilated place.

13. Run engine 5 minutes before putting engine under load.
